During the 1990 Silverstone F1 Grand Prix, a shot of 200 degrees
of field of view was made depicting the McLaren F1 car of
Ayrton Senna in the pit lane during a tyre check with the full
grandstand in the background.
Today, the original photographic scene, made with a rotative camera and
never published, came out of the archives to enrich the history of a
formidable association of a motor racing car and a master of speed.
It is now available in a giant format, thanks to its large film transparency
containing great resolution, and to be exhibited in a
particular fashion delivering visual information in three dimensions and
real life perspectives. No optical distortion at all !

Video clip: To observe the scene
avoiding all optical distortions, the
photograph need to be placed in a
semi-circle. From the centre, 200
degrees of the visual field can be
seen with perfect accuracy.

Surrounded by the activity of a tyre
check in the pit lane of Silverstone
here we have a solitary Ayrton
Senna in his car preparing himself
to rejoin the track while Pierluigi
Martini and is Minardi is waiting for
his turn. It is almost as though we
are sharing these intimate moments
with Senna on 15th July 1990.

70 mm film is a wide high-resolution
film gauge for motion picture and the
revolving camera used for this 200
degrees shot.
The film area is 18 times larger than a
standard 24 x 36 millimeter film.

Video clip: sample of resolution of
the print. With a huge pixel count it
gives the possibility to enlarge the
photograph to extreme sizes with
crisp image details.

Video clip: The original view has large distortion
when read on a flat plane.
For printing
purposes (postcards, posters,
canvas ...) the image had
perspectives correction.

Plan: Surface area needed to exhibit a
photograph of 10 metres length
including stand holder where the
car will be represented in real life
size (4.5 metres).
